My Song - Few Missed Paychecks

(verse 1)
He's just a human
Just like you and me
And goin' through some rough times
(goin' through some rough times)

Strung out
On his personal cross
Lost his wife, lost his family

And now he's on the street
Tryin' to make ends meet
Picking up the shattered pieces
Of his life

(chorus)
What he needs is a helping hand
What he needs is to be shown love
So take note
(take note)
Take note
Because we're only a few missed paychecks away
From being him
(from being him)

(verse 2)
She tries her best
Making tomato soup out of ketchup packets
To feed her kids
(to feed her kids)
She begs and pleads
For every dollar she can find

Leftover table scraps in the garbage
A half empty pizza box discarded
This is her life now
Her lap of luxury

(chorus)

What she needs is a helping hand
What she needs is to be shown love
So take note
(take note)
Take note
Because we're only a few missed paychecks away
From being her

(bridge)
You can point and laugh
Or you can make a difference
You can snicker and scoff
Or you can make a change
You can be the person
That God created
To show His love
To those who need it so desperately

(chorus)
What they need is a helping hand
What they need is to be shown love
So take note
(take note)
Take note
Because we're only a few missed paychecks away
From being them

MEANING:
This is a song I started writing today. I was listening to Jonny Diaz's song "Break My Heart".  As an aside, his new album is fantastic. So I'm listening to the song, and I have to pause it about 3/4 of the way through, because these lyrics just start flowing out of me.  As a writer I've always wanted to touch on sensitive subjects, and my fight-the-power personality means I tend to have differing opinions than others.  I tell people... "I'm not your typical Christian".  And if you read some of my opinions on various social media, you'll realize that.  When these lyrics hit, I knew it was going to be a touchy subject, but it's something that I personally feel drawn too.  Homelessness.  I told my Mom a couple of weeks ago that I guess I just realized that honestly I'm only a few missed paychecks away from being homeless.  Now granted, I'm lucky... I've got family that would help should something happen to me, but a lot of people don't have anyone to turn to.  So this song came to me and was born out of that quote.
