My Poetry - Letter to God

Can we just sit a moment? At the place where we used to dwell?
At the side of the well, where you cleansed me?
Sometimes I don’t really know what to say to you?
Are you even there when I speak to you?
Because I can’t hear you, and truly never have.
The words on a page spoken by a preacher have a different meaning than the words you actually said.
If you made me this way, in such a way, then why do your people hate what I have to say?
My deconstruction lit me up like a Christmas Tree yet it took me away from Christianity, and I’m honestly glad for that because I’ve never been this happy.
My belief in you has changed, are you ok with that?
Because I can’t believe in you like that anymore.
The harm your people have done in your name has scarred me more than my bullies ever have.
“Oh but there’s good Christians” they say. But meanwhile you’re light years away. So what the fuck do you have to say?
Again… I hear nothing. But that’s ok. My deconstruction has let me know that this is the way.
I still believe in you. I still love you. Even if I never hear a word that you say.
I’ll just have to hope that you’re ok with who I am.
I’d rather be me than who I’ve been.
And if that’s something that you can’t understand,
Then I guess you’ll just have to deal with me messing up your plan.
Because I am who I am, and I won’t play pretend.

MEANING:
I started a creative writing class tonight and this was what I wrote for the 15 minute prompt.
Writing Prompt was a letter to God. Talk to God like a friend or family member that you can be brutally honest with.

My Poetry - Weaponizing God

I've been beaten over the head
by a book with a cross on the cover
I've been stomped to the ground
by a man with a white collar
I've been told I'm going to hell
by more people who call themselves "saints"
Their God may be all about "love",
but we all know that they ain't

Leviticus is a threat
that's constantly spit in our face
Their trolling on social media
is like a NASCAR race
Round and round they go,
patting themselves on the back
Saying "I'll pray for you"
like it's an all out attack

They weaponize their beliefs
and try to force it upon others
But when met with resistance
they recite "Sodom and Gomorrah"
They say the Bible is
"the inerrant word of God"
Yet completely disregard
Jesus saying "love one another"

I'm tired of the bruises
I'm tired of the hate
Never once have I said to you
That you have to be gay
Never once have I told you
that you have to believe like me
"Live and let live"
Is that such a hard concept for you to see?

Meaning:
Inspiration for this poem came after I saw a church sign last week that said "prayer is a weapon that should never be concealed" and now I feel like it's the crusades all over again.
