My Poetry - Momma

You're the person that taught me how to ride a bike
The one who stood beside me as I flew a kite
We'd sit on the lanai listening to the whippoorwills
While the orange blossoms at night filled our hearts with smiles

We watched JAG and Judging Amy on the television at night
And spend an hour after talking about what went right
You'd indulge me in my favorite hockey chat
Until after awhile you said "I just don't get that".

It wasn't until my divorce that I understood
Your strength of character in times so rough
If I get even half of your stubbornness I would be so blessed
Because it's gotten you through the worst of it

I love you mom; I don't know how to live without you
You've been there for me when I most needed you
I'm going to miss our daily talks
Who will I run to when I fall?

So goodbye for now, I'll see you soon
I'll call you daily, just on another phone
I'm going to miss holding your hands and touching your cheeks
But more and more in the mirror I see you looking back at me

I love you Mom, to the moon and back.

MEANING: This is the poem I wrote for my mom’s last birthday and recorded for her funeral.
