My Poetry - Dog Days of Summer

She hears the sound of
It's dying outburst
Thunder crackles;
Lightning bursts;

It's a dying remnant
Of an outdated storm,
It still lingers;
Not knowing it's past it's prime.

Raindrops fall to the ground,
This last sign of a dying storm,
Melting away as they hit the ground,
The steam rises.

Fear not storm,
Your torment will soon reign once again,
Even stronger than the past;
Knowing this can not last;
The dog days of summer are soon to pass.

But you strive to keep on,
Never give up;
Never say die;

Finally the last of the dying remnant says goodbye,
Her heart aches;
It breaks;

Winter has come and gone,
Her head to the horizon,
Looking for the storms,
In the distance she hears it,
Rumbling on.

So she waits;
The sadness escapes;
Face to the sky;
Mouth open wide;
Waiting for the first drop of summer to materialize

A sigh escapes her
As the rain trickles down,
Closing her eyes,
and taking it all in;

Those dog days of summer are back;
Again.

MEANING:
This is a poem I wrote in August of 2005.  It was at a rough time in my life.  A very depressing time.  In 2012 I turned it into a song and recorded it.  It's one of two songs that I even got to share with Jars of Clay... and they told me to keep up the great work... really awesome guys... love them.  It was the first poem that I wrote with Jars of Clay in mind.  I wanted to do something that was multi-layered.  I wanted you to have to think about and figure out what it means to you.  I told (Jars of Clay) in a letter I wrote to them about it when I met them.  They have inspired me beyond imagining, and continue to do so.  This is one of many to come.
